The Law of Giving..

This Universal law sort of laughs in the face of today's 'GimmeeGimmee' generation (& I'm not talking about the punk rock group here..;o)
Everyone wants to 'get' something.. we all love our birthdays & holidays for the gifts that are bestowed upon us. Or is that just me?

I sincerely love to 'give' as well. I give things to people that I would like to have for myself.
So is that really unconditional giving? Or just my hinting to the Universe.. hmmmmmm.
A conundrum.

But what the true sense of this law says, is that both giving & receiving are equally powerful energies.
When we give, a vacuum is created where once our 'possession' was.
Nature abhors a vacuum, right?
And so something comes to us to replace that 'hole'.
Hence, some would say 'we give.. to get'.
Oral Roberts built an empire on that thought.. 'seed faith' he called it. You give 10% (to him, preferably), & watch the abundance come to you. This is what the Bible teaches us about tithing that 10%, as well.
And its true not just for monetary recompense. I've found that if I give 10% of my time, or my talent (whatever that may be), or my coffers.. it all comes back to me 'pressed down & running over'.
Which doesn't stop one from going above & beyond the 10%. If you feel drawn to donate to Goodwill, or St Jude, or Ronald McDonald Houses.. whatever.. you don't have to stop at 10%.. & I have learned this : You can't out give God (or the Universe). It WILL come back to you. It's the Law..

'Giving' sets off a reciprocal energy that brings 'Receiving' into play.
'Receiving' allows someone the opportunity to stretch their souls.
It's not always easy to be on the receiving end of gifts, if you don't feel worthy of them.
So to make this Law work for you, you have to be 'open' to receive the bounty!

Then it becomes the ever recycling process of giving & receiving.. And that is just plain joy.
Our return gifts may not be the same things that we give out. For example, when I gave my friend an older car that I didn't want to use as a trade-in for a newer one.. my return gift was not only the tax write off, but also her gratitude at having reliable transportation to get to work, haul her kids around, & take some fun trips. You can't buy things like that!

Why not test the Law to see how it works for you?
Place a $5 bill in a homeless guys bucket.. give an extra few bucks into the coffee fund at work (even if you don't drink it; this is for testing purposes).. shoot, you can send $10 to Oral Roberts if you want.. it isn't the recipient that counts.. it's your giving!
And when you do this giving, say a little prayer of gratitude that you are able to share this wealth.. & ask the Universe to make you more aware of the cycle of giving & receiving, so that you can acknowledge when this gift is returned. (Often good things happen to us, that we don't even take the time to realize that this is our gift recycled)

And let us know how this worked for you..

I've always loved to give. Sometimes I've given with conditions and sometimes I've been blessed enough to give unconditionally which is way more cool. I think the most important way I have learned to give later in life...is to myself. To feel worthy of receiving.

Ha, what a great time to read this entry - I just donated more than I should have to my friend who's doing an AIDS ride.

Unlike Angi, I've yet to become comfortable with receiving - I always feel like people shouldn't fuss over me, or I'm an inconvience to their time and/or money. This is something I'd love to master someday - to say 'thank you' instead of 'you didn't have to.'

I also really like your note about tithing. Growing up in the church, I learnt it was all monetary...but why not donate skills or time?

Great message & blog!

Lets talk about the universal law of giving. Shall we? Just like the law gravitation exist, just like the law of opposites exist, the law of flow exist, the law of reciprocity exist and the list goes on and on and on. Unfortunately, not many people really understand what actually the law of giving is? Consider a light bulb for a moment. It can only be turned on when the two terminals are attached to it in the right manner. The point to be noted here is that if we connect the bulb only with one terminal no matter if that one terminal has thousands of volts in it. The bulb will simply not light up!! Hence both the terminals must be connected to facilitate the flow of electrons. (energy) The universal Law of flow says energy always flow from higher value to the lower value, that is from +ive terminal of the bulb to the -ive terminal, heat always flows from the body of hot temperature to the body of cold temperature, river always flows from higher altitude to the lower altitude, air always flow from higher atmospheric pressure to the lower pressure system. The same law of flow exists in giving. Consider the process of giving as you have attached yourself to the +ive terminal of the universal energy. You cannot flourish or glow unless you attach yourself with the –ive energy to your receiving end from the universe. The law of giving simply states that “you cannot give without receiving and cannot receiving without giving”. Just like the light bulb cannot be lighted in the above scenario with only one terminal attached to it similarly, the cycle of law of flow of giving & receiving does not complete unless we all connect ourselves with the +ive terminal of giving and –ive terminal or receiving simultaneously. Once we connect both of our terminals of giving and receiving then we start emitting light just like that light bulb does. And that’s where the fun begins. The intense joy and happiness that we feel in unconditional giving is far beyond any explanation. Once I have felt that feeling of intense joy of giving and serving other people only then I realized that it is more addictive than the world’s most powerful addictive drug. I found my myself being addicted to that feeling of immense joy of giving in that very moment so much that I don’t even care what I might be receiving. Although I receive big rewards later but the my real joy comes instantly in that moment of giving and serving that I am completely addictive to now!!!! You can read tones of books for years and years but perhaps you might have not found this information that I have just given. I understood this law after twenty years of research and reading tones and tones of books. This is your opportunity to implement this law of giving in your life and then you will see a rewarding life that you would have never seen before ever. I promise!

What is your insight on giving to family members who do not appreciate, express their gratitude, nor reciprocate your efforts? Do you continue practicing the law of giving with these individuals or do you "redirect" your energy to people who are contributors to life not the ones who take away from life?
